Mark and Family Welcome to Making Tracks. Walking is our passion, all our staff are walkers and enjoy walking from the valley floor to the mountain top. Whether using a map or a GPS system, or even just walking round the local park. Making Tracks is a retail business supplying outdoor gear and equipment, maps and GPS systems, books and a lot of enthusiasm. We stock both brand name equipment such as Jack Wolfskin, Berghaus, Brasher and less advertised labels such as Keela and White Rock. We try and ignore what the magazines say and use our own ‘minds’ to decide what is good to stock.

As the owner of Making Tracks, my passion has always been about being out and about. This had lead me to having many interests. These include walking, skiing, travelling, sailing, bird watching, camping, fishing and golf. This cross discipline of interests has shown me that one quality piece of kit can be used for all sorts of activities. I wear the same jacket for most things including super market shopping - arrh! My main requirement in gear is flexibility, this also means you get the use out of it and therefore makes it good value to buy quality.

I set up Making Tracks over eight years ago for two reasons. The first was about my love of walking. Secondly, I was concerned about what ‘big business’ was doing to walking and the people who do it. If I can encourage people to get out there and give them the confidence to go a bit further, then I am a happy man. We do want you to have the right outdoor equipment for the job. This means we do not over sell but we also do not under sell. Equipment failure can be very dangerous as well as untrue product claims. We are not a ‘don’t care as long as you spend’ company. The outdoor equipment and gear we supply is right for the job and has been tested by at least one of the Making Tracks team. We trust the gear we sell because we have history with it and not just some paid for review or advert

The aim of the Making Tracks site is for us all to learn about the outdoors and develop our abilities in order to make full use of our beautiful landscape, to keep us fit, and to enjoy ourselves. Look out for future events such as ‘An Introduction to GPS’ Seminar (its free!). My shop is in Nantwich, Cheshire so if you know any good walks around here, please tell us about them, and we’ll put them on the site.
