Introduction to Equipment

Manufacturers are always coming out with new products for us to stock, and for you to buy. Some innovations are really worth the money, but there are plenty of products just re-labelled with new and fancy names. We try to cut through the marketing spin, and offer the best. Remember a good idea is a good idea, even if it was last years idea. There have been many good ideas discontinued in order to promote something new, but not working out as good in the longer term.

However, I appreciate that we are all different, and all our bodies operate in very different ways. We all do different things, so what will suit one person will not suit someone else. In our home for instance, I am a Thorlo sock fan, and my wife is a Brasher sock fan! So it is important for new products to be developed but do not forget the established products

We are a small business, and we try to provide the equipment that we find most suitable for walkers of all standards. That means that, while our stock of equipment is not the biggest in the world, what we do stock we believe in and trust. Most importantly, we like to think that we shall never sell anything to somebody that won’t work for them. And if you have a problem with what we sell you, we would like to help you sort it out. So come and see us or phone or email us.

A clear example of this is the Brasher Hillmaster boot. Its strong, light and comfortable. It is  still one of the top selling (if not the best) boots in the U.K.. Its concept has not changed much since it was first made. It has been made in the same Portugal factory for years and so they know what they are doing unlike a contracted out factory. I don’t notice it being in the magazine reviews often.

This is me in my 6 year old Jack Wolfskin Rhapsody  jacket. Its a soft feel, light wieght Goretex jacket that has outlasted most ‘packtlite’ Goretex jackets. I’ve walked up most U.K. mountains in all weathers and has kept me dry. The soft outer layer means it folds away pretty small and, oh yes, I’ve been in the supermarket wearing in it.
